Frequently asked questions

Why is the result lower than my plan?

Your plan describes the speed up to your provider's equipment. The test measures the whole path to a server on the internet: Wi-Fi, your router, busy network nodes and the server itself. A gap of 10–20% is normal. If the difference is several times, run a test closer to the router or over a cable.

Why do results differ from test to test?

Speed depends on how busy the network is at that moment, on the chosen server and on what other devices at home are doing. One number says little — several tests at different times of day say a lot. The History tab keeps them for comparison.

How does Wi-Fi affect the result?

Wi-Fi shares the air with every neighbour on the same frequency, which is most noticeable on 2.4 GHz in the evening. Move closer to the router, switch to 5 GHz or compare with a wired connection to see how much the wireless link costs you.

What are latency and jitter?

Latency (ping) is how long a signal takes to reach the server and come back. Jitter is how much that time jumps around. For calls and games, steady latency matters more than raw speed.

Which server is used for the test?

By default the nearest one. Tap the Test host card on the main screen to choose another nearby server. If the chosen server does not respond, the test runs on the next one, and the result shows the server it actually ran on.

How much traffic does a test use?

Download and upload run for about ten seconds each. On a fast connection that can be several hundred megabytes, so keep it in mind on a metered mobile plan.

What does the host check show?

Whether a specific site answers and how fast: how its name resolves in DNS (with TTL), a series of TCP connections with minimum, average and maximum time, the HTTPS response code and the host's location on a map. It helps tell “the internet is down” from “one site is down”.

What do the statuses on the Services tab mean?

Each service is checked step by step. “Not found in DNS” or “DNS returns a stub address” means the name does not resolve or is replaced. “No connection” means the address does not answer. “Secure connection fails” means the connection is cut or tampered with during encryption. If only one service is down, the problem is that service or the route to it, not your internet.

What does “Check whether it works” in the DNS settings do?

It checks whether your DNS requests really reach the resolver you selected, or whether your router or provider answers them instead. If they are intercepted, choosing a different resolver will not change anything on that network.

Where is my history stored and how do I delete it?

Only on your device — the app does not upload it. Clear it in Settings → Interface; deleting the app removes it as well.

Is the app free?

Yes. There are no subscriptions, in-app purchases or ads, and no account is needed.

How do I change the language or theme?

Settings → Interface. The app supports English and Russian and light, dark or system theme. Changes apply immediately.

Where can I read about privacy?

In our Privacy Policy. It lists every service the app contacts and what it receives.
